Why do we study English?
I found the answer to this question.
It was last November me and other boy went to the Estonian Embassy as five days intern for our school program.
When we entered the Embassy, Ms.Loa, an Estonian lady welcomed us with a big smile.
"Welcome!"
She was very friendly and kind and explained us the jobs at the Embassy in easy English.
And because she used English, we were able to communicate with each other.
Then I realized, "This is why we study English. Because we can communicate with not only English natives but also many other people in the world."
Why do we study English? My answer is "So that we can make a lot of friends all over the world!"

なぜ僕たちは英語を勉強するのか？
エストニア大使館に行ったときのこと。エストニア人の女性が笑顔で迎えてくれ、大使館での仕事について、とても親切に、簡単な英語を使って説明してくれました。そのとき、僕は気づいたのです。なぜ僕たちは英語を勉強するのか？英語ができれば英語を母国語とする人だけでなく、英語を使って世界中の人とコミュニケーションをとることができる。「世界中にたくさんの友達をつくるため！」というのが僕の答えです。

Allergy by Ayaka （中1・受講歴7年目）

I have an allergy to eggs.
Every time I suffer from it I am depressed a lot.
Also I suffer from the misunderstanding of my friends.
Some friends laugh at me.
I wonder why the people who suffer from allergy are increasing.
The first reason is we use many food additives.
Chemical goods pollute people.
And second reason is air pollution.
We know it now. We must be careful to keep nature clean.
And I really hope we try to understand the others.

私は卵アレルギーで、発作がおこるたび憂鬱な気分になります。友達の中には、私のことを笑う子もいて、悲しい気持ちになります。なぜアレルギーに苦しむ人が増えているのでしょう？理由のひとつに食品添加物の使用、二つ目に大気汚染があげられます。そのことに気づいた今、私たちは、自然をきれいに保つために努力しなければならないのです。そしてさらに、お互いのことを思いやり合えるようになることを心から願います。

My dream　by Mariko （中2・受講歴6年目）

Hello, everyone. My name is Mariko. I’m 14 years old and I’m in the 8th grade. I’m good at running, so I’m on the track team. I practice running 5 times a week. When I won second place in competition last year, I was very happy. You might think I want to be an athlete. But the answer is “No.”
Today I’ll tell you about my dream. My mother used to read me some English books when I was little. I liked them very much. When I was in the 3rd grade, I started to learn English at Benesse English School.
English is not easy. Writing English is more difficult than reading English for me. But I like English, because singing English songs is fun. Now I usually enjoy singing “The One” with my CD before I go to bed. I like “Back Here” and
“Baby Baby” as well as this song. I want to be better at English and I want to be an English teacher in the future.
My English teacher always says, “Never give up. Where there’s a will, there’s a way.” My philosophy is the same as her words. So, I will keep practicing English to make my dream come true. Thank you.

私は走るのが得意で、陸上部に入っています。去年の大会では2位！でも陸上選手になりたいかというと、そうではありません。
私は3年生のころから英語を習い始めました。簡単じゃないけれど、英語が好き。特に英語の歌を歌うのが楽しい！将来は英語の先生になりたいんです。
英語教室の先生はいつも、「あきらめないこと。意思あるところに道は開ける。」と言ってくれます。先生を信じて、夢をかなえるためにもっとがんばりたいです。

My Class　by Suzuka （中2・受講歴4年目）

I'm going to tell you about my class. There are 36 students in my class. The classroom teacher is Ms.Yamada. She is our science teacher. Some of my classmates don't stop talking during class, but we are good friends.
Our class got two gold prizes during school festival.
One was for chorus and the other was for the class newspaper.
We won the ball game tournament too.
We can do anything when we are one.
Our class is very noisy during class, but I love my class.

36人の私のクラスは、大の仲良し。
授業中おしゃべりがとまらないこともあるけれど、学園祭ではコーラス・学級新聞の2つで金賞をとったり、球技大会でも優勝したり、みんなが一つになれば何でもできる。
そんなクラスが大好きです。

Hello, everyone. My name is Keita. I'm in the 8th grade.
Today, I'll tell you about my best friend.I have many friends. And they all are important to me, but one friend is special. His name is Kento. We have been good friends for a long time.
He likes games very much. He is good at playing action games. We often play it together. It's exciting. He likes reading too.
We have big dreams. We sometimes talk together about our dreams. He wants to be a writer. I want to be an astronaut. If I can go to the universe, Kento will write about my journey.

Hi! My name is Sayaka. I'm in the 8th grade at K junior high school.
I like running, swimming and basketball.
My favorite sport is basketball.
I play basketball after school from Tuesday to Sunday.
Our basketball teacher is interesting. Most of the members like him.
Playing basketball is hard but exciting. It is fun.
I want to win the next game.

中でもバスケットボールがお気に入り。
練習はハードだけどワクワクするし、楽しいです。

My best friends　by Yumeno （中2・受講歴3年目）

My name is Yumeno. I'm in the 8th grade. Today, I'll tell you about my good friends.
I have many friends, but two of them are special for me. Their name's are Saki and G-co. They go to the same school as me, and are in the 8th grade. Saki's favorite sport is basketball. She is a very good basketball player. G-co's favorite thing is to play the trombone. She always does her best for everything.
We have been friends for about 3 years. I especially enjoy being with Saki and G-co, because we are in the same English school.
First year, we made our original drama at the Christmas performance. It was so hard at first, but when we made it, we felt comfortable together.
Next year, we tried role play in the new textbook. First, it was so difficult to memorize the words. But while we were practicing it, we were enjoying a lot.
We concentrated and got over such a hard time together. Our friendship is forever. Thank you.

私には友達がたくさんいますが、中でもサキとジーコは特別。
同じ英語教室に通っていて、クリスマス会で自作の劇を演じたり、テキストのロールプレイをしたり。最初はとても難しかったけれど、練習するうちに楽しくなってきて、みんなといっしょに大変なときを乗り越えることができました。
私たちの友情は永遠です。

My favorite sport　by Naoya （中2・受講歴3年目）

Hello, everyone. My name is Naoya. Today I'll tell you about myself.
Do you like sports? What's your favorite sport? I'm really into table tennis. I'm on the T Junior High school table tennis team. The practice is hard but fun because I can find my progress.
?I played table tennis for the first time when I was 10 years old. I couldn't hit the ball then. My friend taught me how to play table tennis.
This is my table tennis racket. It's made of wood. I can control my ball with this racket. As I practice it six times a week, the rubber of the racket is coming off.
This summer, we joined a metropolitan tournament. We lost the game by a small margin. Last week, I was elected as a captain of our team. I want to win the next game and get the title.

ぼくは卓球が大好きで、学校の卓球部に所属しています。
練習はハードだけど、上達が感じられるから楽しいです。
これがぼくの卓球のラケット。木製です。週に6回練習するのでよくラケットのゴムのところが取れてしまいます。
この夏は都大会で僅差で負けてしまいました。
クラブの部長に選ばれたので、次の試合では絶対勝ってタイトルを取りたいです。

My idea by Saki（中2・受講歴3年目）

Hello. My name is Saki. I'm in the eighth grade.
I'm here to speak for all of junior high school students in public schools.
In Tokyo most of public schools don't have any air conditioners. This summer we felt over 35℃. Not only due to the high temperature, but also the humidity, we felt uncomfortable. Even though it's hot and humid there are a lot of students in the classroom. We almost choked.
Now we are in the summer vacation. I feel relieved in my room, because I have an air conditioner.
Actually, I go to school almost every day to play basketball. I think it's OK there is no air conditioner in the gym. I can endure while I'm playing basketball.
But I really can't stand this heat in the classroom while I'm studying or having lunch. This is our right to study under good conditions.
Adults are in the cool buildings while they are working. They say it's not good to waste things. But they make so much waste. I know it's better not to make waste, but we can keep about 28℃ to save energy if we have the air conditioner.
I'm only a child yet I know how to save energy. I'd like to share this idea with adults.

東京ではほとんどの公立中学校でエアコンがありません。
この夏は猛暑で、温度だけでなく、湿度も高かったのでとても不快でした。
私たちにはいいコンディションのもとで勉強したり昼食を食べたりする権利があると思います。
もちろん、資源を無駄にしないように、エアコンをつけても28度に温度を保ちます。
私はまだほんの子どもですが資源を無駄にしない方法はわかります。資源のことも考えながら、快適な環境で勉強する方法を大人と共有していけたらと思います。
